Heavenly Bread: The Lord who stands colser to us than anyone
“The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” (John 11:28)
This moment takes place in Bethany, where Martha and Mary are grieving the profound loss of their brother Lazarus. In the depths of their sorrow, when all hope seems lost and the shadow of death has settled over their home, Jesus arrives. Martha whispers quietly to Mary: “The Teacher is here and is calling for you.” This verse is far more than a historical event; it is a powerful message of hope for us today, reaching into our moments of sadness, weariness, and despair.
*1. A Lord Who Knows You Personally*
- Jesus did not come merely to see a crowd or deliver a general address; He came to call Mary by name and comfort her.
- In this world, we often feel lost or isolated in the crowd. Yet, the Lord knows us by name. He sees our hidden fears, our silent burdens, and our unspoken sorrows.
- He is the God who calls you personally.
2. A Lord Who Seeks You Out
- When Mary was too brokenhearted to run to Jesus, Jesus took the initiative and came to her.
- Even when we feel far from God, or too exhausted to pray, Jesus seeks us out and comes to where we are.
- His profound love pursues us long before we ever start searching for Him.
3. A Lord Who Comforts You
- The moment Mary heard, “The Teacher is here,” she quickly stood up and hurried to Him.
- The presence of Jesus turns despair into hope. When we hear His call, our heavy burdens are lightened.
- He offers not a temporary, worldly comfort, but a divine solace that dries our tears and breathes life into dead hopes.
Practical Application:
- Arise: Step out of the closed rooms of your pain and hurry toward Jesus, responding to His call.
- Open Your Heart: Like Mary, pour out your raw emotions and sorrows at the feet of Jesus. He is waiting to listen.
- Stand Firm in Faith: Even in moments when everything feels completely out of hand, trust that His presence can bring forth miracles.
Prayer
Loving Lord, Thank You for Your great love that calls me by name. In my moments of weariness and loneliness, prepare my heart to hear Your comforting words: “I am here, and I am calling for you.” I lay my sorrows and struggles at Your feet. Comfort my heart with Your presence and fill me with Your hope. Amen.
